How do I get a Library Media Centre account?

Visit the Media Centre during Parent & Community Check Out times to create your account.  The sign-up process is very simple: ask to open a new account at the Check Out desk, and we will give you a short form to fill in.

Remember to bring your BIS ID card when creating your account.

How many items may I borrow?

Parents and community members can check out up to 10 items at once. You will need your BIS ID card to check out books.

You cannot check out new books if you have late ones.

How long may I keep items I check out?

Are there fees or fines associated with a Library Media Centre account?

There are no fees for using the Media Centre, and we do not issue late fines.

In very rare cases, patrons have been asked to pay for a lost or damaged book. This is extremely unusual. If you have questions or concerns about this, please email us.

What kind of materials can I borrow from the Library Media Centre? 

We currently have books in 20+ languages. In addition to the many books and magazines we have, we also offer a variety of board games, power drills, and even a bicycle repair kit! ​

Where is the Media Centre on campus?

The Media Centre is located in the Waves building at the top of the stairs. We are above the cafeteria and conveniently located near the elevator.

When can I visit the Media Centre?

Please sign in and out at Security before proceeding to the Library Media Centre.

Parents and affiliated community members are welcome to visit on any normal school day at:

• 8:30-9:00
• 15:00-16:30, 15:45 on Friday

What do I need to bring to the Media Centre?

Remember to bring your BIS ID card to check out items.

Can you help me find things in the Media Centre?

Yes! The librarians and library assistants can help you navigate the library catalog and can teach you to find items in the Media Centre.  

Please remember that as a busy school library, we prioritize helping our students and colleagues. Thank you for your patience if it is busy when you visit!

Digital Subscriptions and Databases

The Library Media Centre supports teaching and learning at BIS in a variety of ways, including subscribing to reliable databases (see the PYP, MYP, and DP sections of our website).

Passwords for these resources are available for your use. Do not share these passwords outside of our community, and never post them publicly.  

Library Account Online via Destiny Discover

Destiny Discover is our online library catalog, and you do not need to log in to search it.

However, creating a personal account has many benefits. You can view your Check Outs and renew any books that are not late. You can also join waiting lists for popular titles by putting books on Hold. You can even make a list of Favorites, which may make your visit to the Library Media Centre even easier.

To set up your account, please contact the library staff. We are also happy to show you some of the features of Destiny Discover when you visit the Media Centre. Just ask!

Sora e-Reader Account 

Sora is our e-reading platform; all staff and students automatically have an account.

Parents and community members, please contact the library staff to set up a personal account and begin accessing our many eBooks and digital audiobooks.

Sora is available on the web or as an app.

Special Events and Campaigns

The Library Media Centre staff regularly plans special events and campaigns at our school to promote reading for pleasure, to encourage curiosity and research, and to celebrate student learning. Please keep reading the Newsflash to see how you might support these special endeavors.

Gifts and Donations

We are grateful for donations of gently-used books, especially those in languages other than English. Book donations should be brought directly to the Library Media Centre office.

If your donations are not "just right" for our library collection, we will pass them on to other sources.
