Talk to a BIS parent

Would you like to connect with a BIS parent who speaks your language? Or has a child the same age as yours? Or maybe you would like to hear directly from another  parent about their school experience? By all means!

Send a note to our Admissions Team and we can connect you with one of our BIS parents.

DIANA VAN MERSBERGEN, PRIMARY TEACHER

For a number of years, Diana was the Primary Years Programme Coordinator at our school, a leadership position focused on curriculum development. However, she came to miss the variety of teaching, how every day is different and surprising, and stepped down to return to the classroom.

Holding a Dutch passport and married to a British national, Diana and her family have great international experience, having also lived in Indonesia, Laos and Thailand. Her children have grown up as third culture experts.

"The most important thing students need to learn is that they are but a small part of an interconnected world - and that this comes with great power and great responsibility."

BENEDICTE NEICHEL, PARENT

Benedicte has a son in the Diploma Programme and a daughter who recently graduated.

She quotes her children: "Both of our children love(d) their time at the school and consider themselves lucky to be able to learn in an environment that makes learning interesting and enjoyable, that challenges them to think about what they learn and that allows them to manage their own learning and to develop their confidence. They appreciate having great teachers to guide them through their years at BIS."

"BIS is a warm and welcoming international school community, which provides an outstanding education on a great campus. Its inspiring teachers, innovative teaching methods and supportive and respectful culture help kids develop and become the best version of themselves."

KATIE PATERSON, Assistant Principal and PYP Coordinator

With a Masters in Educational Leadership, Katie is a passionate teacher who loves to connect with children at their level and lead them to grow. She's not afraid to jump in the mud or design a plane. She's known for her love for dressing up in costumes.

As a Third Culture Kid, who herself attended an International School, she loves to nourish the spark in each of her students.

"Every student's educational journey is different. As teachers, we are so lucky that we experience different thinkers, communicators and inquirers every year. Learning from them makes me a better teacher."

WENDY HUYSMANS, COMMUNITY LIFE COORDINATOR

Wendy not only works at BIS to bridge communication between parents and the school, she also chooses to send her son here. The Belgian family joined BIS in 2020.

WENDY HUYSMANS, COMMUNITY LIFE COORDINATOR

"BIS is a well organized school where you feel right at home. We choose this school not only for its academic approach, we also value the Co-Curricular Programme, tournament participation and so much more.

Teachers do not just educate students, they teach them the social skills they need to be a responsible person and go that extra mile to get everyone on track."

REBECCA FURER, PARENT

Rebecca chairs our Parent Volunteers. She and her family originally joined BIS in 2018. This is their second stint in Bonn.

In addition to the rich academic, creative, athletic, and cultural opportunities that are available to her daughters at BIS, Rebecca values getting to know other parents and the chance to contribute to school life.

"As a parent, I really appreciate being part of such a friendly, welcoming, diverse community.

Moving abroad to Bonn was a big change for our family, but we immediately felt embraced by the teachers, staff, and other families. The school network has been priceless, and I value the many opportunities to get to know other parents and contribute to school life."

MARLA, STUDENT

Marla has been at BIS since the beginning of Primary School.

She is a member of our Primary Student Council and one of our crossing guard team, outside every morning helping her fellow students safely arrive and line up for the start of school.

"I don't know what I want to be when I grow up yet, but I am sure that BIS will help me prepare for that job and is teaching me important things. With this, I can probably be anything I want when I grow up."
