No school can work if parents and teachers do not act in partnership on behalf of the children's best interests.

BIS parents are enthusiastic, supportive and important to the success of our students and future of our school. Our parents are an invaluable community resource. Parents lead the school as elected members of our Board of Trustees and enrich campus life by serving with the Parent Volunteers organization, as part of the Welcome Family Program, as room parents or specific event coordinators. Our parents are encouraged to be active members of our school community by volunteering in classrooms, on trips, in the Media Centre and with extracurricular activities as well as by attending assemblies, arts and sports events.
Parents within the school community also organize activities specifically for other parents. Groups and activities vary from year to year and recently included a knitting group, yoga classes, zumba and art classes.
Some long-standing activities include:
International Voices is a community choir made up from parents and staff from Bonn International school and members of the International Catholic Chaplaincy of Bonn. The choir was formed in 2010 by the director Tanya Talbot and currently has around sixty members. The choir performs at Bonn International School as well as exclusive locations in and around Bonn, including Bonn Münster, Cologne Cathedral, La Redoute, the Steinberger Hotel, and local Christmas markets.
International Voices is a non-auditioned, mixed choir. Most members do not read music or have any previous choral experience. Everyone is welcome and the emphasis is on enjoyment and community spirit.
Rehearsals are on Mondays, 15:45-17:00, at BIS.
To join, please email the director, Tanya Talbot or come along to a Monday rehearsal.
For parents who are not native English speakers and would like to improve their skills, our Bonn English volunteers can support you. Bonn English is a group for parents organized by native English speakers who volunteer as English teachers. If you would like to join the group to learn or consider volunteering your language skills, please contact the Development Office so that you can be put in touch with the coordinators.
In addition Bonn's Volkshochschule puts together a programme of activities to fine tune English skills through their "English Programme".
Badminton, Basketball & Cheerleading
The Badminton, Basketball and Cheerleading groups at BIS are organized by our BIS Sportverein. They meet on weekday evenings in the BIS Sports Halls and welcome parents of all abilities; students are also welcome if playing with parents. Please email the BISSV Office with any questions or queries.
Running, Walking & Hiking
Parents interested in joining a running group can join the group meeting in the Kottenforst on Monday mornings. Whether you have never run before but wish to begin, or are a seasoned veteran, there is bound to be someone to buddy up with.
You will also find people who walk for fitness or simply the pleasure of the outdoors. If you have any questions or wish to be part of these groups, please email the Development Office.
