Home-School Exchange

BIS firmly believes that dialogue between students, parents and teachers is fundamental to ensuring successful learning. In fact, one of the School Beliefs reads "learning is a partnership amongst families, students, educators and society". As such, BIS informs parents and listens to them in a variety of forums and through a variety of communication channels.

Parent Workshops are led by the School Counselor. These generally deal with emotional development for children and teenagers. Last year, the parent workshops dealt with teasing and bullying, change and transition, third culture kids and adolescent development.

The Primary School gathers each month for assemblies which parents are encouraged to attend. These focus on topics covered by classes, individual accomplishments, and group presentations. There are occasionally Secondary School assemblies for celebrations and special purposes.

There is a secure parents section connected to the BIS website. In this section, parents can find the school calendar and as well as complete and timely information about events, activities, staff contact information, and internal issues. The BIS Newsflash is a newsletter distributed via email on Fridays to all community members with information on upcoming events and recent achievements.

The families of Primary School students received monthly grade-level bulletins from homeroom teachers, filled with photos and information about recent and upcoming activities and subject matter. Student Diaries are ensure that Secondary students, parents and teaching staff enjoy a transparent and open means of communicating with one another. In these diaries, teachers comment on student performance and behaviour, students keep track of their assignments and deadlines and parents can see how their children are doing while being able to contact specific teachers directly and quickly.
