Extra Curricular Activities

Extra Curricular (EC) activities play an important part in the student life of Bonn International School. As such, the school has Gilbert Grant as a full-time Activities Director whose time is devoted to the enduring the smooth functioning, diversity and quality of extra-curricular programming at BIS.

The school offers a broad and balanced programme of sport and non-sport activities suited to different age groups and interests. These activities take place either during lunch time or after school and are run by staff members or other qualified coaches/leaders. Activities can vary from year to year, but always include a wide range of sports, dance, music, drama, math and science and Model United Nations.

The EC Sport Program offers competitive interscholastic sporting opportunities. BIS is a new member of the Northwest European Council of International Schools (NECIS) that brings 11 international schools together for quality sporting activities from the Under 12 (U12) age group to Varsity level. BIS is also a member of the ISST organisation (www.isstsports.org) and competes in ISST cross-country, football and basketball tournaments at the varsity level. The school strongly encourages the active participation of all students. EC Sport offered during the 2011-2012 school year include:  basketball, cross-country, football/soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track & field athletics and volleyball.

The EC Recreational Activities Program offers an equally diverse and interesting selection of activities. These encourage creativity and allow students to pursue their interests at deeper levels. Clubs and activities this school year include Model United Nations, Yearbook, diverse foreign languages, maths, dance, and arts and crafts. In addition, there are a number of musical offerings, including school bands, blues band and choir as well as saxophone and string instrument groups.

Specific information about individual activities is located in the community section of the website (login required).

In addition to the activities mentioned above which are specific to BIS students, the school is open to some outside organisations. These organisations offer activities of special interest to our students and yet are open to children not attending BIS as well. One such activity is scouting, with both Girl and Boy scout groups meeting regularly at BIS. For more information about the Boy Scouts, please consult their website at  http://www.bonn-boyscouts.de!

Model United Nations

This year is another exciting and challenging year for over 50 Grade 9 - 12 students involved in the BIS Model United Nations (MUN) Club. BIS will participate in three MUN conferences. In November, we will hold our annual BIS MUN conference at the college. The focus will be on an historical Security Council topic and debate. In early December, a delegation of 15 students has been selected to attend PAMUN in Paris. For the first time ever, BIS has been given a seat on the Security Council, representing the United Kingdom. In January, a delegation of an additional 12 students will be selected to attend THIMUN in the Hague. This is the world's oldest and largest Model United Nations conference.

BIS MUN:  Saturday 19th November.

PAMUN:  2nd - 4th of December.

THIMUN: 23 - 27th of January.
