When Bonn International School was first formed in 1997, faculty members and students reflected together about what kind of school they wanted. They decided that the last place they wanted to be was in a school with a "don't" culture -- as in, "don't do this" and "you are not allowed to do that". These early BIS community members wanted a school embedded with a culture of positive language and values so they wrote the "Seven Respects".
The "Seven Respects" live on today. All community members are asked and expected to model these respects on a daily basis. They set the tone and tenor of interactions between all persons at BIS -- students, parents and staff. They do so because BIS continues to promote a culture based on mutual respect, tolerance, cultural understanding, and principle.
In addition, Bonn International School offers the full palette of programmes authorised by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IB). IB programmes are constructed and executed with the "IB Learner Profile" in mind. This programming encourages and supports students in becoming:
caring, principled, open-minded, risk-takers, communicators, thinkers, reflective, balanced, inquirers and knowledgeable.
We at BIS believe that a school culture outspokenly dedicated to the "Seven Respects", combined with a curriculum based on the supporting values of the IB Learner Profile, provides students and faculty with the affirmative environment they need to flourish.
