Founded: 1997 - Merger of former American High School, American Elementary School and British High School.
Enrollment for 2010-2011: ca 610 students, ranging from 3 to 19 years, from 60 different countries. Four largest national groups represented in BIS are Germans 25%, North Americans 17%, UK 7%, Italy, Korea, Netherlands 3%.
Curriculum: IB World School, currently one of only 150 schools world wide with the privileged authorisation to run the Primary Years (PYP), Middle Years (MYP) and Diploma (DYP) Programmes. Full accreditation granted by Council of International Schools and New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
Technology: Computers, internet resources and interactive whiteboards in every classroom. 300 computers with an increasing laptop programme. A dual PC and Apple platform that is moving to Apple technology to support learning.
Faculty: 60 full-time teachers, 10 part-time teachers and 9 teacher assistants from 16 countries.
Class size: Average 18 students, maximum of 22 students per class.
Student/teacher ratio: 8.1 to 1.
University Advising: Dean of Students who is the advisor for students bound for colleges/universities worldwide.
Counsellor: Full-time Counsellor available to all students to support their social and emotional needs.
