Stephen Middlebrook joined Bonn International School on 1 August 2010 as its new director after a long career as a teacher, principal and director in both international and US independent schools. Most recently, he served as a consultant to a new international school in Saudi Arabia that supports a graduate research university. He has been director of schools offering International Baccalaureate programmes in Osaka, Japan and Berlin, Germany as well as independent schools in the United States in Illinois and Massachusetts.
Mr. Middlebrook grew up in western New York State and did his undergraduate degree in English at the University of Virginia and his master's in Special Education at Western Michigan University/Athens. He has taught in Connecticut, New York and Pennsylvania schools, as well as overseas in Turin, Dusseldorf, Athens and Dubai.
Mr. Middlebrook is married to an early childhood professional and has two adult children who earned IB diplomas in international schools. He has served on the boards of the Japan Council of International Schools, the Japanese chapter of the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development and the Association of German International Schools. He enjoys classical music and music history and is delighted to be working in a school with a statue of Beethoven in the entrance foyer.
