Student Council

Secondary Student Council is the representation of the student body in Grades 6 - 12. It is composed of 20 dedicated and enthusiastic students. Five of these students are officers in Grades 11 or 12 who are elected by the entire student body in April of each year for the upcoming school year. The other members of Student Council are homeroom representatives elected via in-class elections at the beginning of each school year. Officers include:

  • President
  • Vice-President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Events Coordinator

2009-2010 was a busy year for Student Council. After homeroom elections, orientation and formally establishing the role of officers in the fall, Student Council worked with the Dean of Students to transform and revive the house system. The grand kick-off, a school-wide assembly complete with new house leaders, house naming, and a wacky relay race was a definite success. It was soon followed by a Battle of the Houses competition in which students participated in a "game show" to find out how well they really know their teachers. In December, Student Council decided to harness the giving spirit of the season by selling and delivering Holiday Candy Grams to benefit its adopted charity, the United Nation's Nothing But Nets Campaign. After a long holiday break and exam period, Student Council threw a Carnival celebration complete with candy, Carnival music, costume competitions and great prizes.

But the fun did not stop there. Student Council hosted an event to benefit and raise awareness for the Nothing but Nets Campaign, collaborated with the house leaders to run more lunchtime competitions and hosted the annual Spirit Week and End-of-the-Year Barbecue. Student Council gathered feedback to improve cafeteria meals, raised awareness of its adopted charity, and improved communication with the rest of the student body through homeroom representatives.

Student Council is also responsible for the daily morning announcements heard in the Secondary School and regularly posts information about its activities on the Student Council Bulletin Board just off the main foyer. Comments, questions and suggestions are always welcome!
