Accreditation and what it means

When expatriate parents search for a school for their children in a new country or city, accreditation by various international organisations can assure them that the education received by their children is of high quality and applicable to the school systems to which they will return.

Bonn International School is accredited by 3 seperate institutions: the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IB), the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) as well as the Council of International Schools (CIS). To achieve accreditation from each of these institutions, BIS has had to undergo a preliminary visit, carry out an in-depth self-study, host a visiting team of external professionals, and demonstrate the quality and breadth of its programming. Each of the accrediting organisations has reviewed and evaluated BIS in the following areas:

  • philosophy and objectives
  • curriculum
  • governance and management
  • staff
  • student support services
  • resources
  • students and community life

Accreditation from external organisations proves that BIS is open to objective assessment and devoted to its mission statement. The school has thought deeply about its programmes and services and examined itself from many angles. In addition, BIS has called in experts to validate its programmes and give advice on best practice and future planning.

In order to maintain accreditation from the International Baccalaureate Organisation, Bonn International School participates in a 5-year review cycle of its programmes. NEASC and CIS require reports at 5-year intervals and evaluation visits at regular intervals.
