BIS parents are enthusiastic, supportive and important to the success of our students and future of our school. Our parents are an invaluable community resource. Parents lead the school as elected members of our Board of Trustees and enrich campus life by serving with the Parent Volunteers. Whether a part of the Welcome Family Program, as room parents or specific event coordinators, our Parent Volunteers ensure life at BIS has meaning for everyone involved. Our parents are encouraged to be active members of our school community by volunteering in classrooms, on trips, in the Media Centre and with extra-curricular activities as well as by attending assemblies, arts and sports events.
Parents within the community also organise activities specifically for other parents. Some long-standing activities include:
If you have ever wanted to join a choir but never found the opportunity, this is your chance! Led by Tanya Talbot, a musical director from London, the group meets once per week to sing, rehearse and socialise. The International Voices Choir (as this group is known) performs at various school and local community functions, and have even sung in the Cologne Cathedral!
The choir meets every Monday after school. Please contact the Development Office with queries.
For parents who are not native English speakers and would like to improve their skills our Bonn English volunteers run groups. Bonn English is a group for BIS parents organised by native English speakers who volunteer as English teachers. If you would like to join the group to learn or consider volunteering your language skills please check out the Bonn English website for more details.
In addition Bonn’s Volkshochschule puts together a programme of activities to fine tune English skills through their “English Programme”.
Badminton & Basketball
The Badminton and Basketball groups at BIS are organised by our BIS Sportverein. We meet on Tuesday (Badminton) and Thursday (Basketball) evenings and welcome parents of all abilities; students are also welcome if playing with parents. Please email the BISSV Office with any questions or queries.
Parents interested in joining a running group can join the group organised by Krista in the Kotten Forest on Monday mornings for an hour of workout. Whether you have never run before but wish to begin, or are a seasoned veteran, there is bound to be someone to buddy up with. If you have any questions or wish to be part of this group, please email the Development Office.
