Quick Facts about Bonn International School

Founded: 1997 - Merger of former American High School, American Elementary School and British High School.

Enrollment for 2011-2012: ca. 690 students, ranging from 3 to 19 years, from 60 different countries. The largest groups represented in BIS are from North America (24%), Germany (18%), United Kingdom (11%), Australia (4%), Netherlands (4%), France (4%), and India (3%). 

Expansion: BIS is embarking upon an expansion programme which will provide for an enlarged school hosting 800 students. Groundbreaking took place at a ceremony on 18 June 2011. Completion of the new building with a second full-sized sports hall, additional classrooms and speciality teaching rooms, meeting spaces and Secondary study hall is scheduled for Summer 2012. Also included in the campus expansion will be the American Club, a much-loved local landmark adjacent to the current school grounds, which will include an auditorium, practice spaces for the performing arts and eating facilities.

Curriculum: IB World School, currently one of only 157 schools world wide with the privileged authorisation to run the Primary Years (PYP), Middle Years (MYP) and Diploma (DYP) Programmes. Full accreditation granted by Council of International Schools and New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

Technology: Computers, internet resources and interactive whiteboards in every classroom. 300 computers with an increasing laptop programme. A dual PC and Apple platform that is moving to Apple technology to support learning.

Faculty: 66 full-time teachers, 16 part-time teachers and 36 teacher assistants.

Class size: Average 18 students, maximum of 22 students per class.

Student/teacher ratio: ca. 9 to 1.

University Advising: World University Advisor and North American University Advisory are both available to aid and advise students bound for colleges/universities worldwide.

Counsellor: Full-time Counsellor available to Secondary students to support their social and emotional needs.

Extra-curricular activities: Competitive sports, drama, vocal and instrumental music, Student Council, Model United Nations, mathematics teams, environmental clubs, homework club, computer clubs etc...
