I am delighted that you have taken the time to make a virtual visit to our school. We feel we are very special — the first school in Germany to offer all three world-renowned International Baccalaureate Programmes; a mid-size, growing school in a beautiful, small city on a historic river; a school with more than 60 nationalities; and most of all, a friendly, bustling campus with an energy and a sense of vitality that is truly inspiring.
There are not many schools in the world with a location like ours — when our two-phase school expansion project is completed, we will have an auditorium which may need special sound-proofing because the back rows will only be a few dozen meters from the Rhine’s river traffic! Spectators at our football matches on the pitch next to the school are often distracted by the white cruise boats sailing up and down the river.
Bonn is a charming, green city with a special diversity that comes from its being a center for international government (the UN), international research (its university and major scientific research institutes like caesar and several Max Planck Institutes), and international businesses like DeutschePost/DHL and Deutsche Telekom. Bonn is #19 on German’s population list, but our school’s size is equivalent to the international schools in cities four or five times bigger. Bonn is such an attractive place to live that we attract families attached to companies more than 40 km away.
What is difficult to show you on our web page is the friendly, warm, caring atmosphere at BIS and the special 21st-century learning and inquiry that goes on here. So, instead of visiting virtually, we hope you will visit us in person in the very near future!
