The ten member Board of Trustees comprises seven elected parents, the School Director, the Chair of the Parent Volunteers and one staff representative. All of the members are volunteers who donate their time and talents. The Board takes responsibility for strategic decisions at BIS and determines its long-term course and policies. Board members serve a three year term that may be renewed upon re-election. All parents at BIS can stand for election to the board. The school’s community votes in new members at annual elections.
The Board of Trustees divides its work across five standing committees, which meet separately to research and discuss issues and bring these to the Board for decision or information. Although the work of each committee is separate and distinct, the school’s mission and its long-term sustainability guide each decision. This year’s committees are:
- Finance and Personnel
The Board updates the community about its activities via a regular newsletter – “Board Buzz”. This is emailed to parents and staff and posted in the login section of the website. This login section also contains the Board Policy Manual and contact information for individual members. A display board in the main foyer of the Waves building also displays current information.
